I spill my coffee a lot and I always wonder why I never seem to learn. I mean, you would think I would be pretty good at drinking coffee by now, right? Well, science says that it's not just me, and we humans are biologically built to spill our coffee! I just read this article on Science saying that a team of mechanical engineers at University of California Santa Barbara has been researching why people spill coffee. The findings that they published in Physical Review E say: "A fluid's back-and-forth movement has a certain natural frequency, and this is determined by the size of its container. Everyday mug sizes produce natural frequencies that just happen to match those of a person's leg movements during walking. " So, my conclusion is: If you don't want to spill your coffee again, you should walk more slowly than the way you walk naturally, or walk really awkwardly. Then, ...
