@AmazonV – I agree. It appears to me that Starbucks is continually trying to “crack” the code on a few things that may actually be part of their “core.” I work for a big company and have for some time now. One of the interesting things that has happened over time is that new people come in and suggest “new” ideas that have actually been tried before. Sometimes they’re tried again, sometimes they’re shot down (“we’ve tried that before.”) Often it’s the tenure of the senior leadership that determines whether or not it’s new and is actually tried once more. I don’t think Starbucks is completely doing the same thing here. After all, Howard has held the most senior of leadership posts for quite some time (even when he stepped down from CEO, he was still top dog).
