India is perhaps the only country in the world growing all its coffee under the canopy of different shade levels. Coffee plantations in India are traditional shade grown coffees, grown naturally, inside a canopy of wild and introduced trees. This symbiotic role between coffee and forests has resulted in a high degree of biodiversity within the confines of the coffee forest. Of late coffee planters receive a little bit of extra money for protecting the biological riches but it does not compensate them for the added expenses involved in producing ecofriendly bird friendly coffee. One way of going about this is to build a coffee model with the help of all stake holders (Coffee Board, Roasters, Grinders, Growers and Consumers) that promotes investment in training the planting community to safeguard precious biodiversity and bring about a authentic origin certified coffee that ...
