Producer: Around 1000 smallholder farmers Location: Karatina, Nyeri Altitude: 1600 m.a.s.l. Varieties: SL28 and SL34 The Kagumoini washing station is located about 1600 meters above sea level in Karatina in the Nyeri district, north of Nairobi. Situated at the foot of Mount Kenya, Nyeri is known as the “grand cru” of Kenyan coffee. It is one of three washing stations in the Mugaga cooperative and around 1000 smallholder coffee farmers deliver cherry here. The coffee was harvested from October through January, and Kagumoini continuously works to improve their quality by training the factory managers and through providing farm inputs and training to the farmers. After arriving at the washing station, cherry is sorted, and ripe and underripe cherry is processed separately.
