Gatomboya is a now legendary washing station in the Nyeri district. It has a reputation for producing the best lots from Kenya year after year. Coffee cherries are handpicked for optimum ripeness, which requires each area to be picked multiple times over the course of the harvest season. Once at the washing station, the cherries are sorted and graded before they are processed using a 4-disc depulper. Once depulped, the coffee is double fermented and washed and dried on a raised bed with the utmost care for roughly 30 days in the sun. This lot marks our first Direct Trade purchase from Africa, we visited Kenya at the end of the fly crop harvest of which this lot was produced from during the months of June to August.
